Board Harold Shapiro Non-Executive Director After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (RSA), Harold Shapiro began his stockbroking career in 1970 in New York. He joined Max Pollak & Freemantle in Johannesburg in 1971, later becoming a partner in 1975. In 1986, Harold moved to Sydney and joined Bain & Company. He became a Member of the ASX the following year. In 1990, Harold was appointed Managing Director of BOS Stockbroking, which became Shaw Stockbroking in 1993 following a management buyout. Recently Harold retired from the office of Managing Director but remains a Non Executive Director of the company. Harold's conservative approach to stockbroking was forged from the experience of his father, Archie, who began his life in stockbroking in 1933 and grew to be a world renowned international arbitrageur in South African gold and mining securities. "My father taught me the importance of a good reputation, to avoid 'fashion', to rely on good quality personnel and to watch costs. Most importantly, he taught me to remember that one makes money in stockbroking, not by the business one does, but by the business one turns away. This is the culture we have at Shaw."

We have built the firm on old-fashioned principles. It is conservatively financed and run on the ethos of 'my word is my bond.'
